The Horde...and how to beat 'em!!!

Some of these are obvious, some aren't, some are subtle, some are just more

efficient ways of playing. All tactics are based off of the first three tips.

Please don't bash, troll, or flame this post or responses to it. If you have

quality advice that I don't cover I'd love to hear it. If we are completely

backwards about something, please correct us. Hope the following helps.

Sorry in advance for poor format, misspelling, grammar, and fluidity. Also, we
know this is very long but it is genuine and we put all of our gaming brain
behind this, please respect it. Thanks guys.

1. A must is five people with five headsets who stick together, communicate,
and work cooperatively, no room for Rambo.

2. You have to have a hold up spot (Jacinto-Grenade spawn tower, Stasis-Center
bridge/Boomshot spawn, Blood Drive-Top of center stairs in room with window,
Day One-Arcade balcony/Torque Bow spawn , River-Either cabin/Torque Bow spawn,
Avalanche-Platform with Mortar/Mulcher spawn) for all five people, preferably
only one entrance, no more than two. The entrance needs to be narrow enough
to be blocked by one or two SHIELDS.

3. Meat SHIELDS have priority over all with the exception of a downed
teammate, keep them planted or equipped!

4. Always revive your teammates, always.

5. In each wave always leave the last enemy alive so your group can collect
SHIELDS, then ammo boxes, then power weapons, then grenades, then heavy
weapons (in that order), you can take all day, then regroup in your stronghold
and kill the final enemy.

6. Learn the map and its spawns (enemies and weapons), power weapons and
grenades alternate (Torque/Sniper, Booms/HoD, Frag/Ink, Mortar/Mulcher) every
other wave.

7. When a new wave starts everything on the ground will disappear after
approximately 15 seconds, don't lose planted SHIELDS because of this.

8. Plant your SHIELDS 15 seconds after the new wave starts or else they will
disappear

9. Plant your SHIELDS with the handle toward the enemy, they can not kick them
down this way.

10. Only the humanoid (Drones, Grenadiers, Kantus, Snipers, Cyclops, etc.)
Locust can kick down your SHIELDS.

11. All other Locusts can not kick down planted SHIELDS, but sometimes a
Wretch can squeeze through them.

12. Humanoid Locust become priority when they get to your barrier SHIELDS with
the exception of Blood Mounts, which are always the factor threat, kill it
first.

13. Use unwanted ammo (i.e. default pistol) on big guys (Boomers, Mauler,
Butchers, Grinders) when they reach your SHIELD barrier, they can not get
through, no point in wasting power weapons unless a spawn is in your hold up
spot.

14. Chainsaw Wretches and Sires, melee tickers with any weapon besides the
Lancer, again no point in wasting ammo.

15. Plant proximity grenades, but each player can only set two live proximity
mines at a time (plant a third, your first blows).

16. Don't set proximity nades to close to one another because one will trip
the other negating the effects of one of the grenades.

17. Don't plant proximity nades (especially ink variant) near heavy teammate
traffic.

18. There is no friendly fire, but your own nades/boom shot/etc. can hurt
you.

19. Don't drop your smoke nades, plant them (doesn't matter where), before
picking up replacements

20. In the case of seeing an enemy standing in ink/smoke, your reticle will
not turn red but you can still damage them, shoot.

21. You can only blow up your own grenades with bullets, shoot a buddy's
proximity and nada.

22. Best pistol to use for horde is the Boltok for best headshot capability.

23. Best rifle for horde is the Lancer only because of the chainsaw for
Sires/Wretches.

24. A SHIELD can block any enemy fire (Boomshot, Torque Bow, Etc.) except the
Mauler's mace, grenades, Lancer chainsaw (because of slow turn rate with
SHIELD deployed), and I think but not certain both the Kantus scream and
flamethrower can effect a SHIELDED player.

25. If every player can have a different character it makes things a little
clearer.

26. There are only 10 distinct wave patterns, memorize them and see tips 37,
38, 39, 40, 41, 42 for some more but limited info on this.

27. If you die, it is now your job to provide intelligence to your living
teammates using the ghost cam. Cover weak points, let them know what types and
locations of enemies are on the map.

28. The Gnasher shotgun has great melee and is decent at medium to medium long
range for Horde.

29. When leaving the last enemy of the wave alive and you absolutely cannot
run away from him, down him by shooting him in the legs with your pistol (you
should be holding a SHIELD anyway, right?), you and your teammates then have
about twenty seconds before he bleeds out and the next wave starts.

30. Horde mode is not about individual score, all finishing members are posted
on the Live score boards with the same score, don't be a point whore, work
together or you will die early and often.

31. If applicable spilt the team into (or something similar) a two man defense
(stays by barrier to ensure any humanoid Locust jumping or kicking down
barriers are killed and barriers are put back), a two man offense (focuses are
killings locust from other and/or flanking positions) and the fifth man should
float between the two also acting as the primary medic to revive downed
teammates (likely to stick with defense most of time).

32. I have encounter SHIELD glitches, if your SHIELD seems to disappear while
picking up ammo (first look to see if you've dropped it) then just switch to
any other weapon besides a pistol, it should then drop to the ground. Also,
sometimes a glitch will attach you to or on top (usually on stairs) of a
SHIELD, just slowly do 360's while holding the left stick forward an
eventually you'll pop off. Again, when planting SHIELDS on stairs (Day One
balconies) sometimes the collision detection does not work and the SHIELD will
seem to float, you can leave it, the enemies will still be blocked by it even
if it looks like they can fit underneath.

33. Obviously, active reloads are important.

34. Obviously, cover is important.

35. Since the game camera is placed on the right, use this to your advantage
by preferencing right corner cover for better sight line and shots.

36. Name spots with numbers or names instead of "left" and "right". Example,
the hold up on Stasis is the center bridge. Name the stairwell with an ammo
box underneath it "One" and the opposite stairwell "Two" so you reduce
confusion. Put a two man team on each stairwell with the fifth floating as
medic/support, continue to communicate and then proceed to level fifty.

37. Wave 1, 11, 21, 31, & 41 are easy, as well as all the 2's. Still be
careful but use these to restock the teams ammo.

38. The 1's and 2's waves are approximately ten drones and wretches with the
2's adding in two butchers.

39. All 8, 9, and 0 waves are very difficult, turtle inside your hold up and
take it slow.

40. All 8 waves have Maulers which carry the all important meat SHIELD. Let
them get close to your hold up before killing them so the SHIELD is more
accessible.

41. All 0 waves have the biggest threat in Horde, Blood Mounts, make them
priority kills.

42. Waves 1-10 are exactly the same as waves 41-50 concerning enemy numbers
and type the only thing that changes are their stats and they become more
aggressive.

43. At every 10th wave the Locust Hordes health, accuracy, and damage
increase.

44. Avalanche and Day One have SHIELD spawns, prior in the back of a truck and
latter in the arcade, utilize them.

45. Simple communication will keep curious teammates at their position and
with their team, will also keep the fifth man in the right place, and will get
you through the tougher situations, example on Stasis, "stairwell one is
clear." or "two is being over run." Then continue to build from there with
shield status, ammo levels, etc. Don't take that downed icon for granted
either, when you have been downed, announce it to your team with a location
and stay calm, crawl toward your teammates.

46. Play Day One local or private to see the giant rock worm that comes out of
the center of the map, pretty sweet but doesn't happen in public Horde.

47. Do not bother planting proximity nades on all 1-4 waves, they will be
squandered by lesser (tickers, wretches) enemies

48. Regarding Flamers (the enemy), just shoot (2-3 direct Boltok shots at
higher waves) their gas tanks carried on their backs until it starts to spurt
a stream of flame then stop shooting, they will blow up, saving you ammo.

49. Have fun with it guys, it's makes the games so awesome and that much more
satisfying when you works together and have a blast.

50. This can't be said enough , with one enemy left in the wave, every
teammate should be holding a SHIELD and should be planted strategically 15
seconds into a new wave, and repeated for every single wave when you can get
SHIELDS!

51.Stay Up...LATE!!!
